This tutorial is written by Icelady
Design. The tutorial is mine, but what you make, is yours to do
what you want with it.
This is how I make those small animations.
First of all - you'll need Video Pilot or a similar program where
you can splitt the videos into frames. You can download VP here.
It's not longer a freeware as it use to be. :o(
To make the animation, you need a
program for that. I use Animation Shop from Jasc. It's comes with Paint Shop Pro.
You can download AS from here.
Unfortunately I am not able to get
all my mpeg to work in VP. Don't know why... But I've solved the
problem. I use Video Workshop to convert videos into mpeg. For
some reason it seems like Video Pilot handles those converted
files better. I also cut the part of the video I want to use in
the animation. No use for the whole video tho *lol*
This is how it looks when you open
your video in VP:

The buttons are - from left: play, pause,
stop and next frame. Don't mind the fifth button, but the sixth is
for open in new window. This one you need to press for every frame
you want.
Start by playing the video. Press
pause-button when you get to the part you wanna make the animation
of. You'll hardy get to the right spot, so use the slider to slide
a little bit backwards and start pressing the next-frame-button
till you get to the first frame you want to start with.
When you're ready, press open-in-new-window-button,
file > save as > give the frame a number (01 or 001 - depending
on how many frames), change file-format to jpg and save in a chosen
folder. You don't need to save each frame. It will work just as
good to save every other frame. Sure save you some work as well
*lol* This is how it looks when you open the frame in a new window:

As you see the image got the name
from whatever you named the video + framenumber. I change framenumbers
to 01, 02, 03 etc... If you loose track of the frames or anything
else happend so you need to open the video again, check the frame-number,
and you will always find back to the right frame again - so you
wount have to start all over again. *grin*
After finished all the frames you want,
it's time to continue working with the images in the program you usually
use for handling your pics. I use Paint Shop Pro, and what I do is
to resize each frame to the size I want. Since I use PSP, I choose
save as and the fileformat psp (Animation Shop is a part of PSP, but
works as a stand-alone-program s well). If you use another program
- such as Photo Shop or Photo Impact, you need to save the files as
gif's in order to be able to open them in AS.
Time for a short break. Grab something
to drink or eat. I'll have a coke while watching Dan *SSSSSSS*
Ready for the animation part? Launch
Animation Shop and start animate by choosing Animation Wizard:

Then follow the screenshots picture by
picture...

Press neste... and keep doing it till
I tell You otherwise...

How long do you want each frame to be
displayed? This will be fix when the Wizard is done. You have to check
the animation before you deside what speed suites the anim...

Add the images by browsing the folder
where you put them. Mark all the images - by click the first one, then hold down shift-key and click on the last one - and VOILA, you got them all selected:

And open...

As you can see number 01 is at the bottom
and the last one - number 60 - is at the top. Move them in place by
choosing Move Down for image 01 and Move Up twice for image 60. Press
neste...

And fullfør. Now the animation
is ready:

View the animation by pressing the film-ikon:

The next thing to do is to change the
speed - if necessary. Mark all the frames by choosing Edit > Select
All. Rightclick on any frame and choose Frame Properties. Type in
the number of your choice:

I have chosen 1 on mine. Then Edit >
Select None. Go to the last frame and mark it by clicking on the frame.
Rightclick again and choose Frame Properties and type in a number
between 250-300. This will give the animation a short break between
the end and the beginning. View it again.
The speed depends on how many frames
you did use. Every single one - or just every other frame, like I
told you about in the beginning of this tutorial.
Now it's time to save the animation.
If you need any help or things doesn't
work, just send me a mail
